An End Of Year Round Up
20th December 2016, 11:20am
As another year draws to a close and we prepare to swop monitors for mince pies and budgets for beer, it seems like the perfect time to step back and reflect on the last 12 months for us as a business.
2016 has been nothing if not busy; with a number of significant contract wins added to our portfolio – from local schools like St. Michael’s and Manor Community Academy, to a £1.2m contract to supply the new-build Faculty of Business and Law at University of West England, and our recent contract win for fitted and loose furniture at the Foundry Courtyard student accommodation scheme with Balfour Beatty.
We’ve made investments across the business, bringing staff into new roles in Marketing and Tenders Management and installing a state-of-the-art fabric cutting solution at our upholstery centre in Killingworth. In response to the overwhelming student accommodation boom, we opened a new showroom in Durham in August, dedicated to our Work, Rest and Play accommodation range.
In October, we were delighted to receive the Furniture Maker’s Company Sustainability Award for 2016 – a great piece of external recognition for the hard work of our staff. This was followed in December with another great win at the North Tyneside Business Awards, where we walked away with the Green Business and Sustainability Award. We were delighted to also be awarded the ultimate accolade, the North Tyneside Business Awards Business of the Year Award. Along with shortlists at Made in the North East and Mixology North, it’s certainly been the year of awards!
Finally, we closed off the year on Friday 16th December with a charity double-whammy. Decked out in our Christmas jumpers for Christmas Jumper Day, we also held our annual charity raffle in aid of Children North East. We were recently named a member of their 125 Club in recognition of our fundraising efforts – raising over £15,000 for the charity in recent years – and thanks to our generous employees we are very happy to be donating another £2100 this year.
All in all, it’s been a great year for Godfrey Syrett and we’d like to extend our thanks and best wishes for Christmas to all our customers. 2017 brings new product launches, a number of exciting projects and a very special 70th anniversary for us - see you then!
