Meet the Designers: Bob Muir, Designer
21st September 2017, 12:19pm
Hello and welcome to day 2 of our 'Meet the Team' feature! Taking centre stage today is Bob Muir, one of our Designers.
What attracted you to a career in Design?
I always wanted to create “stuff” when I was really young, often a spaceship or car from yoghurt pots and cardboard boxes. When I realised I could actually make a living from creating “stuff” it was obvious that I had to persue it.
What does your role entail?
The main element of the role is the creation of new products/ranges and technical support for our existing offering.
Which products have you recently worked on?
I’ve recently worked on the Harry and Ken range, which we launched at Clerkenwell this year. They are a tables and stools range designed with a minimal aesthetic and skid base, to sit comfortably together - or to complement more architectural soft seating ranges.
What is your favourite part of your job?
I really enjoy the part of a new product development project where the make-up of the new product/range is yet to materialise. This is where the most exploration and discovery occurs and is also the most critical in the design process. Decisions made at this point can drastically alter the overall direction and outcome of the project.
Can you give us a fact about yourself that people may not know?
I did my 2 weeks' work experience at Godfrey Syrett in 2005, 8 years before I started working for them.
Complete the sentence: outside of work, I can most often be found….
Lost in an imaginary world; whether that’s through a film, a game, a book or a daydream.
