12th April 2017, 15:20pmOur Education division experienced a record year in 2016, with sales figures up by £2.1m, which represents a 31% increase on the previous year. We have also made a strong start to 2017, having secured a new multimillion pound contract to supply furniture to three secondary schools in Scotland.
Our Education division accounts for almost 30% of our turnover, with a dedicated team which delivers contracts directly with schools and main contractors.
Over the past year, we've won multiple new clients in the construction sector including Morrison Construction, Balfour Beatty Construction and Torsion Construction. As a result of this success, three new jobs have been created within the division’s estimating and design department.
Godfrey Syrett’s divisional director, Derek Mitchell said:
“2016 was a fantastic year for our education division, with great results in direct sales to schools as well as supporting main contractors with multiple new construction projects. Last year’s figures have beaten our best ever year by 18%. In order to build on this success we have recruited a further business development manager to drive our sales strategy.
In December we announced four new school contracts amounting to £1m in Scotland and we are delighted to have secured a further contract to supply furniture to three secondary schools within the Hub South West region. Our pipeline of work for 2017 and 2018 is looking very positive.”
Alongside an increased school portfolio, we are also experiencing growth in the student accommodation market. We have recently secured a £1.46m contract for a major student accommodation scheme, Foundry Court in Glasgow, on behalf of Balfour Beatty, and a £600,000 accommodation furniture contract with the University of Edinburgh.
