24th June 2014, 12:28pmThe Godfrey Syrett Team bike ride has so far raised a fantastic £1,500.72.
Sunday 22nd June saw members of our team and their families taking part in our first charity bike ride.
The weather was on our side, and we were all raring to go. The event was well attended, with all age groups taking part, (the youngest entrants to complete the course being little Megan Ownsworth; aged 20 months, and Lucy Brown aged 22 months – although they were being towed by dads Tom and David).
Although not a race, some people just can’t help being competitive and a 3 way tie for first place went to Bob Muir, Steven Walker and Micky Reay.
There were goodie bags galore for the riders, and everyone received a certificate of achievement. The riders saw some beautiful scenery along the way (especially the Beer Garden of the Boat House pub at Newburn).
And let’s not forget why it all happened. Children North East is our adopted charity this year. Children North East is the oldest independent children's charity in the North East of England - founded in 1891. Each year they support over 5000 children, young people and families to overcome problems associated with poverty and deprivation and enable them to reach their full potential in life. Together with our raffle and cake sales earlier this year, our ride has helped to push our total to well over £5000, an amazing achievement of which we can ALL be justly proud.
