Godfrey Syrett use festive spirit to raise funds for Children North East

18th December 2013, 17:00pm

We have entered into the festive spirit to raise funds for this worthwhile cause, by having a ‘Mince Pie Coffee Morning and Raffle’. We initially planned to raise the money internally, however we realized that it was a great opportunity to drum up support from our suppliers and business contacts.

Our Purchasing Department sent out an email to our suppliers asking for donations for our raffle, we were overwhelmed by the generosity shown. We received a staggering 128 donations of prizes, including an ipad donated by our Senior Management Team.

Almost every member of staff brought a contribution for our coffee morning, our canteen was full to the brim with sandwiches, quiche, cupcakes, mince pies, muffins and doughnuts. The local fish and chip shop ‘South Gosforth Fisheries’ even donated some bags of chips for us.

It was great to get everyone together and raise funds for a fantastic cause. We had a great morning, eating cake and drinking coffee, and raised £4088.54 for charity, which made the day even more enjoyable.

Our chosen charity was Children North East. One in four children and young people in the North East live below the official poverty line. Children North East believes it is not fair or right that they don’t get the same chances and breaks as their peers.

Children North East is North East England's very own children's charity.  For over 120 years they have been transforming the lives of disadvantaged children so that they have a better chance in life. 132,000 children in the North East are officially living in poverty. Improving their quality of life takes money, time and perseverance.

Godfrey Syrett’s  donation will help Children North East achieve their vision of a happy childhood and fulfilling future for all young people in our region.
