8th November 2016, 18:02pmThe North East’s booming student accommodation market has seen us open a dedicated showroom for our new accommodation range.
We've recently opened the doors to a new showroom at its Langley Moor site in Durham, which will showcase pur new range of accommodation furniture ‘Work, Rest & Play’.
The furniture has been developed to specifically cater for the rapidly expanding student accommodation market in the North East and throughout the UK, and includes innovative storage and furniture solutions for bedrooms, kitchens, break-out spaces, communal living and study areas.
We have already secured contracts amounting to over £2m for the accommodation furniture, which has been designed by our in-house team of designers, and will be manufactured from our two manufacturing sites in Killingworth & Durham.
David Hall, group sales and marketing director at Godfrey Syrett said: “We are delighted to have secured our first contracts for the new accommodation range, which include a £1.46m contract with Balfour Beatty for a development in Glasgow and a £600,000 contract with Edinburgh University. We are also in discussions with a number of developers regarding emerging student accommodation schemes in the North East and anticipate further contracts will follow soon.”
Research conducted by Cushman & Wakefield shows that investment in the UK student accommodation sector soared to a record £4.5bn last year, with 1.69m full-time students, 116 Higher Education Institutes and 539,000 PBSA (Purpose Built Student Accommodation) bed spaces. Figures from Newcastle alone showed there were enough beds to house 11,000 students and this number is rising as developers continue to snap up sites for redevelopment or convert office space.
David Hall said: “Developers are continuing to invest heavily in building new high-spec accommodation for the ever-growing student population and as a result we are experiencing high demand for accommodation furniture. We hope the new showroom in Durham will attract both local and national companies who are interested in seeing our accommodation portfolio.”
He continued: “Student bedrooms have moved on a lot in the past few years, and expectations are high. Our team of designers have developed the new range with this in mind, to provide high quality, adaptable furniture solutions that allow for easy re-configurability and tenant personalisation.”
